Bengt-Åke Lundin

Piano

Bengt-Åke Lundin studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and made a sensational debut playing Tjaikowski’s Piano Concerto in b minor with the Stockholm Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 1989.

This debut firmly established him as one of the leading Swedish pianists, and he has since then had a prolific career as a concert pianist, recitalist and chamber musician. A close cooperation with several contemporary composers has resulted in many performances of works written especially for him. Among these works are Johan Hammerth’s 2 Piano Concertos. Other significant contemporary works performed by Bengt-Åke Lundin are Harrison Birtwhistles “Antiphonies” and Sven-David Sandström’s Piano Concerto no 2.

Bengt-Åke Lundin is an avid recitalist and has been invited to many prestigious festivals, such as the Winter festival in Sarajevo, the Liepaja Piano Festival and the Budapest Festival. Bengt-Åke Lundin has twice been the Swedish representative in the Rising Stars-project, both as a soloist and partnering violinist Cecilia Zilliacus. This has resulted in appearances at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Wiener Konzerthaus, Kölner Philharmonie, Birmingham, Alte Oper in Frankfurt and Carnegie Hall.

During the Summer 2005 Bengt-Åke Lundin made his debut as opera conductor with Ivar Hallström’s “Den Bergtagna” at the Confidence in Stockholm.

Bengt-Åke Lundin is the preferred accompanist of many of Sweden’s leading singers and instrumentalists, such as Peter Mattei, Loa Falkman, Helén Jahren, Cecilia Zilliacus and the Lysell Quartet. In 2004 he appeared in London’s Wigmore Hall with mezzo-soprano Malena Ernman, with whom he has a long-standing co-operation, and in October 2006 they performed together at the inaugural concert of House of Sweden in Washington.

Bengt-Åke Lundin’s discography includes “Swedish Piano Concertos” (Caprice), Swedish Violin Sonatas w. Cecilia Zilliacus ( Phono Suecia), Cabaret Songs w. Malena Ernman ( BIS) and Godowsky – Piano Works and Bartok/von Dohnanyi ( Caprice). Bengt-Åke Lundin has twice been the recipient of the Swedish Classical Grammy Award.
